Recently it was announced that there will be some changes to the new Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic book series and this major change will start with October’s #14, but what is the fuss all about?
Well, the fuss seems to be that there’s going to be a brand-new vampire slayer and it’s not the kind of vampire slayer that we’ve seen in the past. You see in the past, the vampire slayers that we’ve been introduced to have all been ladies, but with the release of #14, we will see a new vampire slayer by the name of Billy. What’s so surprising about Billy? Billy is not a girl but a gay guy. The writers of the series, Jan Espenson and Drew Greenberg, sat down with Out Magazine to talk about the changes with the series and the upcoming very different vampire slayer that will debut in those pages.
The writers find that there should be some type of equality with the series and the concept even though supernatural gifts and abilities cannot be endowed to a male slayer because only a female can be a supernaturally gifted slayer. The writers explain that this new slayer, Billy, will go about slaying more in a Batman-style, meaning that he will train himself to do what it takes to protect his hometown and to kill the vampire threat that is where he lives.
