Marvel’s NOW! initiative has now reached the First Family of Marvel Comics, The Fantastic Four and FF, with new #1’s coming to us in November. And as we mentioned before, Matt Fraction, Mark Bagley, and Mike Allred are on the two new series!
Matt Fraction and Mark Bagley will be working together on “Fantastic Four” with Reed Richards, wife Sue, their two kids Franklin and Valeria, and regular teammates Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm, as they travel through time and space. A road trip, if you will, that plans to take the Fantastic Four family through history and epic events. In Fraction’s words, “If they’re studying ancient Rome, then by God let’s go have lunch with Caesar on the Ides of March. If they’re looking at the Big Bang, they’re going to watch it from the front row.”
Matt Fraction and Mike Allred will take over “FF” with a totally new team on board. The new “FF” team will be lead by Ant-Man with She-Hulk, the Inhumans’ Medusa and Miss Thing, a new female character clad in a Thing suit of armor.
The whole concept seems really cool, with Reed Richards taking his family on his galactic road trip that is supposed to take a total of four minutes with Ant-Man’s team standing guard while the family’s away. What happens, though, is that the First Family isn’t back in the promised four minutes, instead they get a crazed Johnny Storm a few weeks later telling Ant-Man, “We can never open this door again.”
While Reed plans to travel everywhere and anytime, basically, Scott Lang (Ant-Man) has plans of his own with his FF team. Lang blames Doctor Doom for the death of his daughter and has this interesting thought, “What if we attacked Doom and declared war on Latveria?”
Both premises sound fun and interesting and I can’t wait to see what both new series hold for us as readers!
