That’s right, folks! Look for a Fall 2013 release of the new “S.H.I.E.L.D” TV series that’s going to be written by Joss Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon, and, Jed’s wife, Maurissa Tancharoen with Joss possibly directing the pilot if his schedule permits.
The TV series will not be an “Avengers” spinoff. It’ll be its own entity and remain autonomous from the blockbuster movie from this summer. Spinoff reports that “the pilot centers on the global espionage and law-enforcement agency that’s been a key part of Marvel comics since 1965, and has helped to provide the connective tissue between the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Joss Whedon also told EW, “The S.H.I.E.L.D. show kind of dropped in my lap, and I love working in TV. I get to really build a show with people I really trust and love. What we’re building is entirely autonomous from The Avengers. It’s gotta be a show that works for people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies. It will please Marvel fans, I think.”
I was a fan of Firefly and I liked most of Dollhouse, but I loved The Avengers, so I’m looking forward to how “S.H.I.E.L.D” will turn out!
