Writers Leah Moore and John Reppion will be bringing us a new series in September from Dynamite Entertainment called “Damsels” that will be drawn by artist Aneke and the new series will focus on fairytale damsels that we’ve all heard about before and even read about before such as Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and more that will work together to fight off threats to their homelands and to their kingdoms. Supposedly, the series will have a darker side of it especially concerning fairytales and folklore and will also be presented with a more realistic bent to it.
During the course of the first eight issue story arc we will learn that the kingdoms are in relationships together for strategic purposes that the characters may not even know about. Also, we will learn that The Little Mermaid knows a little bit more about what’s going on than she is letting on and not telling the others about.
Reppion explains:
“There’s a lot of saving and being saved going on in Damsels but you won’t find too many passively helpless, powerless female victims in the book. No-one is hanging round waiting to be saved, they’re taking matters into their own hands, unless of course there’s a bloody good reason not to.”
