Joss Whedon may have signed on for more than he bargained for with The Avengers 2, the new SHIELD TV series, and now masterminding all of the movies leading up to the new Avengers movie. He states that he has definite plans for the characters and that bringing them together is just the beginning.
Whedon explains, “The creation of the team is not the happy ending,” he said. “It is the beginning of something that is complex and difficult, and now I get to dig a little deeper. And maybe, while I’m digging, just twist that knife. And that’s exciting for me.” More can be found here.
The success of The Avengers movie, it seems that movie studios are scrambling to get their comic book properties ont the big screen and, following that trend, word around the web is that New Line Cinema is now on the fast track path to get Y: The Last Man onto the big screen. According to Vulture, New Line has received a great draft from writers Jericho writers Matthew Federman and Stephen Scaia, so good, in fact, that they’re looking for potential directors for the franchise.
Some folks think that formerly attached director D.J. Caruso’s idea for a big screen trilogy is a great idea, while I think that something more long form on AMC (similar to Breaking Bad) or, even better, HBO, would be a better fit for the long form comic book series. I would hate to see just one movie from it.
What are your thoughts? How would you like to see Y: The Last Man? Small screen or big screen? Tell us your thoughts!
