Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray #1 Review by Randy Young
There has been much hype about Five Ghosts and it has finally arrived in comic shops so readers can see for themselves what all the hype is about.
Fabian Gray is a man haunted in more ways than one. He’s haunted by an accident that has affected somebody close to him. He’s also haunted, or possessed, by five ghosts. They are The Archer, The Detective, The Samurai, The Vampire, and The Wizard. Five literary ghosts. Some of them are easy to figure out what literary figures they are being referred to without saying their names and others are more difficult.
Fabian Gray is on a mission to somehow rectify a situation that has taken a certain individual from him. It isn’t easy though. We find out this issue that there is a cult that is out to see that he doesn’t succeed as well as obtaining the power that courses through him. In addition, said power is taking its toll on him.
Mooneyham provides the art for Five Ghosts. His style is somewhat reminiscent of Kevin O’Neill (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen) or Guy Davis (BPRD, The Marquis). Sometimes the art is quite striking, other times it is a little sketchy and takes away from the story.
Five Ghosts is an intriguing read. It isn’t exactly what I thought it would be but it’s still a solid read.
