Green Arrow #17 Review by Randy Young
Randy from Excalibur Comics here again. Last time I reviewed a few of the number ones that came out this past week. This time I’d like to review some comics that while they aren’t new, they may have a new creative team on them, or they’re at the beginning of a new story line, or they’re just too awesome of a story to ignore.
Next up is Green Arrow #17.
This is the introduction of Jeff Lemire as the new writer and Andrea Sorrentino handling the art. Lemire almost instantly strips Green Arrow of everything the previous writers had setup around the character – his friends, his money, his empire, even his skill. They’re all taken away from him.
Sorrentino’s art kind of reminds me of Jock’s which is a very good thing. They also seem to give more of a look that is resembling that he has on the TV show.
The premise behind Green Arrow (for those of you who aren’t familiar with it) is that he’s a spoiled rich kid that was shipwrecked on this island and he started to reevaluate his life and trained with this bow and arrow and become kind of a modern day Robin Hood. Lemire gives us this great hunting-mood curve to the story in this issue. Green Arrow was never suppose to make it off that island.
That blows my mind.
This book is a perfect jumping on point if you want to check it out.
