Randy’s Reviews – Thief of Thieves #12 by James Asmus and Shawn Martinbrough

Thief of Thieves #12 Review

Thief of Thieves #12 Review

We know that Redmond is one of the greatest thieves alive. We know that his son, sadly, is not. This particular issue does a great job of showing us just that. Redmond is a great thief because he takes the time to plan a mission, making sure to cover all angles so that nothing is left to chance. He also has rules, such as, no guns. Augustus, his son, has no such rules. Conrad has enlisted his dad to help him rescue his girlfriend from a group of drug dealers he owes a lot of money to. We get to see what kind of plan Redmond and Celia, his partner, can come up with on short notice. Hint: it involves disguises, ropes, and NOT a gun. Someone really needs to get that point across to Augustus.

Asmus beautifully contrasts the smooth, calm abilities of Redmond with the rash, rushed ones of Augustus. One can easily see why Augustus hates his dad so much. Asmus also gives us a great curve ball that I doubt anybody saw coming. Peel away as many layers as you want to, this story has so many more and they all lead up to one thrilling, action-packed story. Martinbrough continues to give us, what I believe to be, the best art of his career.

This isn’t an issue to pick up and start with, but this is a book that more people should be reading. The cast of rotating writers (with each story arc) helps to keep it fresh and unexpected. This was easily one of the best books I read this week.
