If you spend any time watching our videos on our YouTube channel, you will know that we have spent a lot of time talking about Marvel’s Infinity event that will be coming in just a few short months.
Well, it looks like, in addition to the Avengers comics that will be leading up to the Infinity miniseries, we will also have a new Mighty Avengers series that will be hitting the shelves later on this year that will be focusing on a core group of returning and new Avengers to the team, some of them you may actually recognize such as Luke Cage, Power Man, She-Hulk, White Tiger, and Blue Marvel.
From what we know about the Infinity event that Marvel will be releasing later this year, we know that the battle will take place on two different fronts: One front will be actually in the Marvel Universe, out in space, and the other front that the war will take place in will be on Earth and this new series, Mighty Avengers, is the earth team that will be dealing with the threat at home.
Starting in September, comic book writer Al Ewing and comic book artist Greg Land will take on this new title as we see Earth’s superheroes deal with the threat of Thanos’ attacks planet Earth.
This series will also see the return of Monica Rambeau to the team, no longer as Captain Marvel, but as the new superhero named Spectrum, and in this new Avengers series, she will not be the team leader.
It appears that in this new Avengers series, the team leader will rotate between Luke Cage and the Blue Marvel, The Falcon will also be a team member along with the mysterious Ronin, and we’ll also see costume and identity changes over the first year of the series for many of the characters.
If you’re curious about the new teams’ much more diverse makeup, editor Tom Brevoort says that was all part of the plan and that they first started working on this new team book back in February around the same time of Black History Month and since Luke Cage was planned to be one of the primary members of the team, it seemed a natural fit to have more non-white, non-male characters on the team than anything else.
One point of controversy will see the Superior Spider-Man as part of the team as well and will probably be the most antagonistic team member there.
If you’re a fan of the Avengers team style from the 70s and 80s, then this book is going to be right up your alley.
