Brian Wood’s name has been synonymous with critically acclaimed comic books for a long time now. Comic books such as DMZ, Conan the Barbarian, and Northlanders.
Well, now you can add “Mara” to the list of work by the acclaimed writer.
This December Image Comics will release Brian Wood’s and Ming Doyle’s brand-new creator owned series called “Mara” that is set in the world where sports and celebrity are the things that the world obsesses about and in this world, Mara Prince is the most famous person of all. As a matter fact, on top of her gifted abilities that she already has, things become much more interesting whenever she exhibits superpowers on live television
You see in this world that Mary Prince lives in, we find that great physical abilities are not just expected, they are mandatory. In this particular world, personal perfection and achievement are celebrated.
“For a while I’ve seen a connection between superstar athletes and superheroes, both superficially and also in how each can be portrayed and dissected, lauded, and demonized by the societies they serve. Mara deals with a superstar female athlete who commits this very ‘sin’ of not being perfect, and finds herself facing down the worst of what we can throw at a vulnerable young woman.”
Though Brian Wood is most notably known for writing stories that features societies that are crumbling all around, and in this new series it finds a society that is in the height of its decadence before it goes on to crumble around the people that are part of it.
Be sure to add this new Image Comics series to your pull list because it will be on the comic book shelf on December 26.
