Did you like TV shows like The Wire and The Shield? Like crime comics? Well, Dynamite Comics is wanting to give readers the best of both worlds with the debut of Red Team from award winning writer Garth Ennis and artist Craig Cermak.
Red Team is coming from Ennis and Cermak!
Who are the Red Team and what do they do? Ennis explains:
“Red Team is made up of four highly motivated and intelligent NYPD plain clothes officers. They primarily handle narcotics and related homicides, and therefore gangs. Their job is to disrupt the drug trade in New York’s grimmest neighborhoods through surveillance, amassing evidence, building watertight cases. Eddie Mellinger and Trudy Giroux are the main characters, and we switch back and forth between their points of view as the story unfolds. They’re younger and slightly more idealistic, Eddie more so than Trudy. Duke Wylie and George Winburn are the founding members of the team — it doesn’t get much more old school than these two.”
Red Team will focus on a group of intelligent and motivated police officers that decide to take matters into their own hands and a suspect gets murdered at their hands. The story will take a look at tough decisions made in the face of having to deal with the worst of humanity on a daily basis. Sometimes, being surrounded by those circumstances all of the time, it gives you a different perspective of how you might handle things.
If this new series does live up to the promise of being similar to TV shows like The Wire and The Shield, it could be a very interesting book and I expect nothing less than that from Garth Ennis.
