“Lore” Graphic Novel Headed to the Big Screen with Barry Sonnenfeld!

There has been a ton of comics-to-movies news being reported over the past several weeks and one piece of news that surprised me was that it looks like Men In Black director, Barry Sonnenfeld, is staying in the sci-fi/action genre a bit longer by adapting “Lore” for the big screen.

Apparently, Lore was published by IDW Comics back in 2008 and was written by T.P. Louise and Ashley Wood and drawn by Wood. Lore is about a secret society of Shepherds that protected the world from mythological creatures that the world thinks don’t exist, but they do exist, and the generational line of Shepherds has been broken and a hero’s life is threatened with the return of the creatures.

The movie is set to star Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) and there’s no word as to who the female “reluctant hero” will be. Sonnenfeld seems to think of the project as “Men In Black, but with mythological creatures”, not aliens. Also, the deal is setup to be a starring vehicle for Johnson and initially started a bidding war between four studios before going to Warner Bros. The movie is written by Cory Goodman and Jeremy Lott.

Never read the graphic novel, but the premise seems fun and I think I’ll enjoy seeing it on the big screen.
