Did you enjoy The Avengers movie, directed by Joss Whedon? Yeah, we did, too. We loved it and we love the fact that Joss is returning to direct the sequel!
Variety is reporting that Bob Iger (Disney Executive) announced that Whedon will be returning to the Marvel universe with the already much anticipated sequel, Avengers 2.
Not only is Whedon directing Avengers 2, he’ll also be working with ABC Studios to develop an Avengers-themed TV series! Iger said:
“Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015,” Disney said in a statement. “As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel’s The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel’s cinematic universe.”
As we’ve mentioned before about the Avengers TV show, we more than likely won’t be seeing the big screen action characters but probably something along the lines of a S.H.I.E.L.D-based drama or even a series that showcases more of the lower-tiered Marvel characters.
Hopefully this news get you appetite wet for what’s coming in the next few years. FirstShowing actualy has a breakdown of what to expect and when:
In the meantime, we’re going to get four more movies from Marvel Studios to lead-up to the next Avengers: first up is Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black, due out in May 2013; next is Thor: The Dark World, being directed by Alan Taylor, due out in November 2013; then we’ve got Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by the Russo Brothers, in early 2014; and finally Guardians of the Galaxy due in summer 2014, though no director has been named yet. They might fit an Ant-Man movie somewhere in there, but it looks like all of that will be leading up to The Avengers 2, to be directed by Joss Whedon, most likely 2015.
Mark your calendars, folks. There’s big stuff right around the corner and it’ll be here before you know it! By the way, this isn’t all of the Marvel Universe related TV news we’ve come across, either. Stay tuned for more news about another exciting development for a Marvel TV show tomorrow!
