Kevin Eastman is no stranger to comic books and has been known as one-half of the duo that brought us the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” for decades now, but later this year, Eastman wants to be known for more than his little mutant children.

Newsarama is reporting that next year, Eastman will be teaming with Joshua Ortega (“Gears of War”), Digger T. Mesch (creator of Mini-Mates and co-founder of Art Asylum) and artist Qing Ping Mui to bring us a new spin on the undead as we know it – “The Other Dead” – which will be about – you guessed it – undead animals!

Joshua Ortega explains the book like this:

“This book’s going to have a lot of things going for it: fast-paced action-horror, amazing art, memorable characters, sex and over-the-top gore, political commentary, toys and collectibles, a hardcover art book, and even the President of the United States…and of course, the big kicker: Zombie. Animals. Hell, if that doesn’t keep ’em coming back well, guess it’s just not their kind of book! our main cast will feature Tommy, a 12-year old cancer survivor; his brother, Azazael, a member of the Norwegian-like death metal band Decapitation; Az’s girlfriend, Justina Abelinda, a stripper who knows a little something about brujeria; Chet Wayne, a cajun ex-Army Ranger, and, last but not least: the President. Yeah, the President. You’ll be glad you voted for him.”

Expect the new series in the Spring of 2013.

In other news, Eastman is teaming with fellow comic creators Simon Bisley and Joe Pearson for their post-apocalyptic story “Lost Angeles“, a story about a gang-ridden Los Angeles in a world that barely escapes a comet impact. In the midst of all of the chaos, two rival gang members, Mikal and Angel, find themselves in love, though they’re from rival gangs and it’s that love affair that just may tear their own clans, and Los Angeles apart.

Eastman describes the series this way:

“It’s a ‘Romeo and Juliet’ sort of aspect. Mikal is the main leader of a group called the Stompers. Their main turf is based around Hollywood and Highland, the true heart of Hollywood area. Angel is this new Aztec princess that wants to sort of escape the wrath of her father and what his plans are. They share a similar dream of a better world, a better place, a better freedom. I love the ‘West Side Story’ sort of element of, they find each other, immediately bond and then decide to partner up in life and a mission to change the world they live in.”

Lost Angeles” is a six issue miniseries that will launch later this year, with a concept by Eastman and Bisley, story by Eastman, Bisley, and Joe Pearson, and painted covers by Bisley with interiors by Eastman. Eastman still plans to continue his work on “0Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” while fans and readers get to experience his work on these two new series.
