Age of Ultron #3 Review by Randy Young
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Bryan Hitch
We are three issues into the Age of Ultron and people are beginning to grumble that we have yet to see Ultron. While I can see why they might be disappointed, I can’t help but think they are overlooking what is starting to become a good story.
It took Bendis three issues to get here but we finally start to get a glimpse of what’s going on. Luke Cage and She-Hulk have a knockdown brawl but not because they are enemies. It’s all part of the plan. Spider-Man has given the underground group of heroes an important bit of information they are going to try and use to their advantage. For some unknown reason, Ultron is buying superhero bodies. Cap has a plan to sell Ultron one of the group so that they can see what’s going on inside. It comes down to Luke and She-Hulk, two powerful, bulletproof heroes with nothing to lose. Luke takes She-Hulk to Ultron but is shocked and horrified by what he finds. You will be too.
Bendis has painted a picture of utter despair for our heroes. They are at each other’s’ throats over what they should do at this point. It’s not easy to see these iconic characters in this situation but it’s a refreshing departure from the typical status quo in Marvel Comics.
The most disappointing part about this story is that I feel it will have little repercussions in the long run. Heroes are dropping left and right but that will probably be fixed by series end. Still it’s interesting to see who you might’ve thought would be around dead or die and others stepping up and doing amazing things.
Age of Ultron won’t disappoint. If you wait too long you might miss out on earlier issues. Hope on board as the first act closes. April is upon us and that sees another three issues. Pick up the previous issues while you still can.
