Next up is Red Team #1.

This is not a five minute read and it really takes its time to set up this book with this issue. We already know that from interviews and what-not that this book is about four cops who decide to take the law into their own hands. What we learn from this issue, though, is that this falls part.

We know this because one of these cops is being interrogated and he’s telling the stories of the events that have happened over the past 8 months. We know the beginning and the end from the get-go and now Garth Ennis is obviously going to take the time to tell us everything that happens in between – how it goes from working out right to turning out so wrong.

If you’re looking for something that’s similar to The Boys, be prepared to be disappointed because Ennis is giving us a completely different kind of story here. Joining him on the art duties is Craig Cermak. I’m not familiar with him and his art isn’t really the most dynamic but it does a good job of telling the story. I just feel that it looks a little stiff at times. Given time, I’m pretty sure that he’ll be able to develop it or work on his art style there. So, I’m not too worried about that.

This was a good read and it reminded me more of Ed Brubaker and how he sets up his crime stories rather than something that I’ve read from Garth Ennis before. However, it’s well worth adding to your pull list.
