Superior Spider-Man #4 Review

Superior Spider-Man is hitting its stride for me. The past two issues have been quite good. I really like this idea Slott is exploring of having “Peter” be the best that he can be in all aspects of his life. It really does make you stop and think why Peter wasn’t doing this in the first place. I have not been a big fan of the self-loather that Spidey often is in his comic. I like that we are getting to see a confident, capable Peter that isn’t going to wait for a crisis to create something to help him and/or the city out. The ideas that Slott is having Doc/Peter create are fun.

Massacre is a minor villain that I honestly didn’t really even remember from his previous Spider-Man storyline. This time, however, Slott manages to create a deadly villain that I am having a hard time seeing Doc/Peter not going to extremes to take care of.

This issue also features a last page ending that you shouldn’t flip to if you don’t want to spoil it. It will make some people very happy.

The only thing that really doesn’t work for me on this issue is the art. I might be one of the few readers out there that doesn’t really enjoy Camuncoli’s art. The bug-eyed look on all the characters just looks a bit odd.

My final say on this issue is that all those people who are complaining about how terrible the Doc Ock/Spider-Man storyline has been really aren’t giving it a chance. It was off to a rough start at first, but is really enjoyable right now. It’s a book I can easily recommend to new readers knowing they’ll like it.
