Newsarama is reporting that “Avengers Academy” will see its last issue (#39) this November as part of the new Marvel NOW! initiative makes its way through the Marvel Universe.

When asked about the future of the characters and the title, writer Christos Gage told a Twitter follower, “Don’t cry, Ash! Really, don’t, it’s OK.I’m fine, and the characters will still be around, in other hands. Can’t say much more.”

When asked, a Marvel rep said, “We have exciting plans. Stay tuned for major announcements over the next few months.” What those plans are, we’ll have to wait and see.

And while the cancellation of “Avengers Academy” may be bad news for some, here’s some good news for “Journey Into Mystery” fans – the series will continue!

Both CBR and Newsarama are reporting that “Journey Into Mystery” will continue with new creators, new lead character, and a new direction starting in November.

Kathryn Immonen will be the new series writer, teaming up with artist Valerio Schiti, and instead of reading about Loki, the new main character will be Lady Sif! Immonen describes Sif’s story as one of self-discovery, but also something more, as Immonen explains,

“There’s a lot of kicking ass and not taking a lot of names in this one. She’s an action hero and a fighter in a way that Loki is not. Maybe what I do a little bit differently than other people is that I don’t use the talking to get to the fighting, I use the fighting to get to the talking. So that’s where I am with that.”
