Guardians of the Galaxy #1 Review by Randy Young Written by Brian Michael Bendis Art by Steve McNiven Marvel’s much anticipated book of 2013 has arrived and it does so with a bang! Bendis brings together the once but now not-so-motley crew of Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket “don’t call me” Raccoon, Groot and Drax. This time … [Read more…]
I’m going to quickly touch on three books that worked for me this week and three that fell flat. WINNER Wonder Woman #18 This issue wraps up the events of a pretty epic storyline that has been going on since the first issue. The addition of Orion to Wonder Woman’s squad is great. He fits … [Read more…]
Nova #2 Review by Randy Young I have no problem admitting that I’m no fan of Jeph Loeb and his weak storytelling and even weaker scripts. I also have no problem admitting when I’m wrong. This is one of those instances and I’m happy I was wrong. Nova #2 is a solid read that has … [Read more…]
Fables #127 Review by Randy Young Fables is one of those special comics that has been trucking along for over a decade, quietly telling strong stories month after month. One of Willingham’s strongest suits is taking one character and making an epic story about them. First was Bigby Wolf, then Boy Blue, then Flycatcher, then … [Read more…]
Superior Spider-Man #6 Review by Randy Young This whole Doc-Spidey thing is coming to a head. The story that I thought could go for some time is probably going to end much sooner. Screwball is back and Jester is along for the ride. The problem is their target is not somebody who will take their … [Read more…]
Five Ghosts: The Haunting of Fabian Gray #1 Review by Randy Young There has been much hype about Five Ghosts and it has finally arrived in comic shops so readers can see for themselves what all the hype is about. Fabian Gray is a man haunted in more ways than one. He’s haunted by an … [Read more…]
Constantine #1 Review by Randy Young With this issue, John Constantine fully becomes a member of the DC Universe. Gone is the strong language, drugs, and sex of Hellblazer. This John Constantine is slightly more likable but only slightly. Constantine has a mission. He has to find this long lost magical artifact before anyone else … [Read more…]
New Avengers #4 Review by Randy Young Hickman is flexing his creative muscles in his Avengers books. One of Hickman’s strengths is the ability to tell multiple stories, incorporating wild technology and concepts that the normal person has a very difficult time wrapping their brain around (just look at Spencer try to do this in … [Read more…]
Saga #11 Review by Randy Young This issue is one to remember. We have gotten to see the relationship between Marko and Alana via flashbacks. This issue we get to see the conception of little Hazel. Caution, the first page is quite a shocker as is the pillow talk that follows. Somehow, though, it doesn’t … [Read more…]
Wolverine #1 (2013) Review by Randy Young As much as I don’t like Wolverine and I didn’t want to like this issue, it’s off to a solid start. This is due in no small part to the duo of Paul Cornell and Alan Davis. Paul Cornell doesn’t give us anything new when it comes to … [Read more…]
